Lisighaus is the birthplace of the famous church reformer Huldrych Zwingli.
In the morning of New Year's day 1484 Huldrych Zwingli was born in Wildhaus. He was ordained as a priest at the early age of twenty-two (in Constance) and then acted as a priest in the canton of Glarus and also as a preacher with the Glarus troops. He could, however, not identify himself with his mercenary colleagues and left to continue his work as a priest in Einsiedeln. From 1519 until his death he was a priest at the Grossmünster cathedral in Zurich. His tasks in Zurich were an influence on him to become a church reformer. While still a Catholic priest he set the cornerstones for the Evangelical-Reformed church of Switzerland.
